How to write music lyrics

How do you write a good song? Where do you begin? A song is kind of like a poem about certain events, feelings or thoughts. It can be about love, hurt, tragic or any person experience that you want to put in the poem. You can do what you want to do. You can write it any way that you please as long as it's meaningful.

You can start out by brainstorming. You will then sort things out and make good poetry out of it. A good song has hidden symbols in it instead of being too overt. You can then convert your songs using simile and metaphor so that your song sounds more poetic but don't be too awkward. You will then write out a chorus for it too. A chorus is several lines that repeat itself throughout the songs.

You will then read the song and make any final edit. You want the song to flow well when singing out loud. You also want it to sound smooth and not awkward. You want it to come out sounding right. You want it to sound professional too like it's a professional song ready to be recorded. The words that you use can be up to your personal choice as personal experience is the best when it comes to writing songs. You're now done with writing and then you will need to start composing the melody for it. If you know how to do this then great if not you can ask someone to do it for you. You can then even try to sell your song with the musical composition. Writing a song can be about fun and rewarding as it reflects what is important to you and you should emphasize what is important in your song.

You should write down all that you want express about the subject of your songs and be as vivid as possible. A true story makes a unique song that is not already out there on the market. One really easy way to get ideas is to start with your personal life or the world around you. You can write about past relationships, politics, drama, love, things you want or just to express your opinion on anything that you want in the world. When it comes to your song, it must be original and nothing should be from someone else's work if you want to sell it later or publish it without having a lawsuit over copyrighted issue later on.

You can also copyright your song if you want to sell it later or publish it or sing it. You have to copyright it in order to prove that you own the work and people can't use it. You would go to the copyright license website and pay your fee to have your song register and then you're good to go. You should have your song copyrighted and protected if you're a professional artists and plan to publish it in your Cd's. Song writing can be fun and if you're up for a challenge you can try to enter song contests or sell your songs to publishers. You should sell your work if you want to make some more revenue from your professional work. You'll never know when they need another song. You can also market yourself as a professional writer and work for professional artists or bands.

Choosing the Correct Used Musical Instruments

A lot of people that are interested in music very often have a room that is full of instruments of various types. Music is a great way to get rid of bad feelings when you are feeling down. There are a lot of people that not only play musical instruments but also compose their own songs.

There are a vast number of products that are available and some of these are used ones. This products are all classified by the way that they actually sound when they are played and there is four main categories that are wind, percussion, string and keyboard. It is possible to get all types of products if you would like to get an item whilst being on a tight budget. The four categories can all be divided into smaller categories.

Instruments that fall into the string category are things such as violins, ukuleles and guitars. The wind products are things such as flute, clarinet and pipes to name a few. The percussion are things such as drums, bells and cymbals. The keyboard style include things such as harpsichords, organs and also pianos.

There are over one thousand products across the world and there are a lot of used ones that are available.

If you are planning on playing the musical instrument on your own then it is best to start with a product that you like and then gradually learn and master that item and this could be done by joining music classes. If you have a general interest in music then it may be a very good idea to invest in a keyboard.

There are a lot of second hand ones especially keyboards available all the way around the world. There is a lot of disk jockey equipment that also includes keyboards in order to help them to mix the music.

How to Play Tabs

Most guitarists in the world have no idea how to read conventional music notation and thankfully they don't have to learn since the majority know how to play tabs. Tabs is sort for tablature and is thankfully a simple method of writing down exactly what notes should be played in a guitar piece.

If you don't already know about tabs then you will be pleased to know that it will only take you a few minutes to understand the method exactly and will then be able to start learning your favourite guitar piece. Unfortunately even though you know how to play tablature it wont speed up the process of learning that complicated riff that sound so easy on the CD recording.

The notation of tablature is very simple. It consists of 6 lines on the page and each line represents a string of the guitar. The top line corresponds to the top string or rather the highest note string of the guitar and the bottom line is the lowest note. The bass string of the guitar is of course the top string when you look down at it but that is the last bit of confusion when learning about tabs.

It is simplicity itself how to understand tabs. Reading from left to right the music is written on the 6 lines by numbers showing which fret must be pressed in order to create the note. If a chord is to be played then the notes of the chord are shown as numbers on the strings written in one vertical line.

You just start placing you fingers to stop the frets as shown reading which line and which number. It is a little bit of slow process at first but after a short period of practice you will learn how to read the tablature very easily soon you will be able to do it without thinking at all.

One problem with tabs is one that is always pointed out by the educated people who can already read conventional music notation. There isn't any information to show the speed of the music and how long to play each note. This can be a problem and even though you know how to read the tabs, it is very difficult to play a piece of music that you haven't heard. Thankfully most of the time it is no problem since we all try to learn music that we already have on a CD or mp3.

Another slight problem for beginners when they learn is that a lot of the time they don't know which finger to use. The 3rd string/line may have a 4 written on it but which finger should you use to play it. This is really just a matter of experience and most often it is just what feels most comfortable.

So now you know how to interpret tabs you will be able to proceed with all the thousands of choices of available music on the internet.

How to play tabs is probably the easiest problem for guitar beginners to overcome and although you now know how to play tabs you still have a lot of work practicing the guitar.

Music Licensing As a Source of Passive Income

Music licensing can be a great source of revenue for songwriters. In addition to getting paid an upfront licensing fee, songwriters also get paid each time their song is used in a television broadcast. This creates an opportunity for building a passive source of income from the creation and use of music that grows over time.

I recently received a royalty check for a little over $700.00 for one of my songs that was used in a daytime drama. I've received checks for much larger and I've received checks for much smaller. But the beauty of this particular royalty payment is that it was for a song that I wrote close to four years ago. This is the fourth time the song has been used!

The ability to create a passive income stream from your music is one of the coolest things about music licensing. In addition to the sheer thrill of hearing your music on TV, or elsewhere, there is also the real potential of creating a stream of income that will grow over time. A friend of mine that I went to Berklee with once had a song in a Chili's commercial that aired repeatedly, every day, for months. Kaching! My latest check was for a song that was used twice in spots that were around 30 seconds long, just to give you an idea.

Licensing your music in TV and Films is also a great opportunity for musicians because there are really no barriers to entry. Regardless of how old you are, where you live or what you look like, if you're creating well crafted and well produced songs you can potentially have them licensed for use in TV and Films. So, what are you waiting for?

Aaron Davison is a Berklee College Of Music Alumnus who has been working in the music business for over ten years. His songs have been heard on a variety of television shows and he has performed live throughout the midwest.

Stay Close, Dont Go

I'm staring at the glass in front of me,
is it half empty of our wins or have i ruined all you've given me?
I know I've been selfish,
I know I've been foolish,
but look through that
and you will see,
I'll do better, I know,
Baby, I can do better.

If you leave me tonight, I'll wake up alone,
don't tell me I will make it on my own,
don't leave me tonight,
this heart of stone will sing till it dies
if you leave me tonight.

Sometimes I stare at you while you are sleeping,
I listen to your breathing,
amazed how I somehow managed to
sweep you off your feet girl,
your perfect little feet girl
I took for granted what you do.
But I'll do better, I know
Baby, I can do better.

If you leave me tonight, I'll wake up alone,
don't tell me I will make it on my own,
don't leave me tonight,
this heart of stone will sing till it dies
if you leave me tonight.

And don't you know my heart is open, oh,
it's putting up the fight,
and I've got this feeling,
that everything's alright,
and don't you see,
I'm not the only one for you
but you're the only one for me.

If you leave me tonight I'll wake up alone,

(stay) If you leave me tonight,
(close) I'll wake up alone,
(don't) don't tell me I will
(go) make it on my own,
(stay) don't leave me tonight,
(close) this heart of stone
(don't) will sing till it dies
(go) nif you leave me tonight.
Don't leave me tonight

Secondhand Serenade

John Vesely, who it is said has the vocal range of an 80s hair band, and looks to rival Elvis, wandered through life, from band to band, finding that he could never settle with just one. Then in the summer of 2004, John decided to do it his own way and go solo.

To distinguish himself from the typical singer/songwriter, John adopts the name Secondhand Serenade - a name with far fewer limits than "John". The name Secondhand Serenade allows him to be free to do whatever he feels like, from a solo performance to ten musicians on stage at once.

Secondhand Serenade took off like John couldn't believe - the crowd at live shows and an ever increasing online presence (not least his MySpace page, with a massive 140,000+ friends) prompted him to release his debut album, Awake.

Perfectionist that he is, the studio was top of the range, and John produced the entire ten tracks himself. John not only organised the recording, but everything down to the performances and packaging. And all of this without any label backing.

All of this care and attention paid off, with album sales rocketing and single releases, such as Maybe, doing well on popular radio stations.

A recording contract is now a possibility, but until that day, Secondhand Serenade will continue to independently prosper.

Tested & True

Superstitions aren't meant for lovers
Under covers, undiscovered is your skin
I am lonely, please let me in
You're probably wondering what I was proving
Are you choosing?
Am I losing you tonight?
Is it over, over?

Are we fading?

I never wanted anything the way that I want you
But my words don't seem to matter
My words don't seem to matter
And you look at me and I can see
The lies you're runing to
But my words don't seem to matter
I'd rather have you tested and true

Now you've had your chance
So let's try my way, it's my day
To show you what you're missing, turn around
And feel the winds of change upon your face again
The warm breath of your closest friend
I'm waiting, I'm waiting

Are we fading?

I never wanted anything the way that I want you
But my words don't seem to matter
My words don't seem to matter
And you look at me and I can see
The lies you're runing to
But my words don't seem to matter
I'd rather have you tested and true

I'm scared we'll fall apart tonight
Under the moonlight
Under the moonlight
I'm scared we'll never make it right
Under the moonlight
Under the moonlight
Take my hand and hold it tight
Hold it tight

I never wanted anything the way that I want you
But my words don't seem to matter
My words don't seem to matter
And you look at me and I can see
The lies you're runing to
But my words don't seem to matter
I'd rather have you tested and true

My Chemical Romance

My Chemical Romance (commonly abbreviated to MCR) is an American alternative rock band formed in 2001 in Belleville, New Jersey. The band consists of five members: Gerard Way, Mikey Way, Frank Iero, Ray Toro and Bob Bryar. Shortly after forming, the band signed to Eyeball Records and released their debut album I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love in 2002. They signed with Reprise Records the next year and released their major label debut Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge in 2004; the album was a commercial success selling over one million copies. The band followed this success with 2006's The Black Parade, featuring their hit singles, "Welcome to the Black Parade", "Famous Last Words", "I Don't Love You", and "Teenagers". The band also filmed a live DVD in Mexico City, which was released on July 1, 2008.

My Chemical Romance's music has been described by the media as "pop punk" and "emo", The band themselves described their music as simply "rock" or "violent, dangerous pop" on their official website, as well as rejecting the term "emo" to describe their style. Although a source quotes frontman Gerard Way stating that they are "What-else-ya-got-emo", Way has stated in an interview that they were never emo, as he says emo is "a pile of shit."

My Chemical Romance cite their main influences as Bon Jovi, Queen, Iron Maiden, The Misfits, Morrissey/The Smiths and the Beastie Boys. Gerard Way has said, "We love bands like Queen, where it's huge and majestic, but also bands like Black Flag and the Misfits, who would go absolutely crazy." Way has also said that his band patterns their career after that of The Smashing Pumpkins, another band they admire. Geoff Rickly, the lead singer of Thursday, has compared My Chemical Romance to Ink & Dagger. Growing up, they were also very influenced by horror films and comic books, and therefore their music, lyrics, and image all have overt elements of fantasy, storytelling, horror, and theatricality.

Pretend

It seems all of these words couldn't be further from the truth
How did I get here? What did I do?

Your eyes, telling me lies
And making me find myself
While you have your agenda, a life to persue

So please,
Let me be free from you.
And please, let me be free
I can face the truth.

I'm blind to all of your colors
That used to be rainbow then
My eyes, where did the go to?
Why disappear?

It's hard to be all alone
I never got through your disguise
I guess I'll just go, and face all my fear

So please,
Let me be free from you
And please, let me be free
I can face the truth.

Put down your world
Just for one night
Pick me again

So please,
Let me be free from you
And please, let me be free
I can face the truth

Goodbye

It's a shame that it had to be this way
It's not enough to say I'm sorry
It's not enough to say I'm sorry

Maybe I'm to blame
Or maybe were the same
But either way I can’t breathe
Either way I can’t breathe

All I had to say is goodbye
Were better off this way
Were better off this way

I'm alive but I’m losing all my drive
Cause everything were been through
And everything about you
Seemed to be a lie
A guiltless twisted lie
It made me learn to hate you
Or hate myself for letting it pass by

All I had to say is goodbye
Were better off this way
Were better off this way
All I had to say is goodbye
Were better off this way
Were better off this way

And every, everything isn't only
What it seemed so hold these
Words that you never told me
Its time to say goodbye
Its time to say goodbye
Its time to say goodbye
Goodbye

Bye

Take my hand away
Spell it out
Tell me I was wrong
Tell me I was wrong

Take my hand away
Spell it out
Tell me I was wrong
Tell me I was wrong

Take my hand away
Spell it out
Tell me I was wrong
Tell me I was wrong

Why

The buttons on my phone are worn thin
I don't think that I knew the chaos I was getting in.
But I've broken all my promises to you
I've broken all my promises to you.

Why do you do this to me?
Why do you do this so easily?
You make it hard to smile because
You make it hard to breathe
Why do you do this to me?

A phrasing that's a single tear,
Iis harder than I ever feared
And you were left feeling so alone.
Because these days aren't easy
Like they have been once before
These days aren't easy anymore.

Why do you do this to me?
Why do you do this so easily?
You make it hard to smile because
You make it hard to breathe
Why do you do this to me?
To me, to me, to me...

I should've known this wasn't real
And fought it off and fought to feel
What matters most? Everything
That you feel while listening to every word that I sing.
I promise you I will bring you home
I will bring you home.

Why do you do this to me?
Why do you do this so easily?
You make it hard to smile because
You make it hard to breathe
Why do you do this to me?

Why do you do this to me?
Why do you do this so easily?
You make it hard to smile because
You make it hard to breathe
Why do you do this to me?
To me, to me, to me...

Suppose

Suppose that I missed you
Suppose that I cared.
And suppose that I've spent all my nights running scared
And suppose that I was never there.

And my eyes are screaming for the sight of you
And tonight I'm dreaming of all the things that we've been through
And I can't hold on to you.
So I guess I feel lonely, too.

Suppose we were happy,
Suppose it was true.
And suppose there were cold nights,
But we somehow made it through
And suppose that I'm nothing without you.

And my eyes are screaming for the sight of you
And tonight I'm dreaming of all the things that we've been through
And I can't hold on to you.
So I guess I feel lonely, too.

Slow way down,
This break down's eating me alive.
And I'm tired, this fight is fighting to survive.

Tell me a secret, (I want it)
Tell me a story, (I need it)
I'll listen attentively,
I'll stay awake all night.
Allow me to whisper (so softly)
There's nothing I did mean (please help me)
But it's in my body
It's strong enough to fight (Let's make this right)
Please help me make this right.

Suppose that I was wrong,
Suppose you were here.
And suppose that I reached out and caught your tears
And suppose this fight just disappeared.

My eyes are screaming for the sight of you
And tonight I'm dreaming of all the things that we've been through
And I can't hold on to you.
So I guess I feel lonely, too

Your Call

Waiting for your call, I'm sick
call, I'm angry
call, I'm desperate for your voice.
I'm listening to the song we used to sing in the car.
Do you remember, butterfly, early summer?
It's playing on repeat...
Just like when we would meet.

'Cause I was born to tell you I love you,
and I am torn to do what I have to,
to make you mine.
Stay with me tonight.

Stripped and pollished, I am new, I am fresh.
I am feeling so ambitious; you and me, flesh to flesh.
Because every breath that you will take
while you are sitting next to me
will bring life into my deepest hopes.
What's your fantasy?
What's your, what's your, what's your, what's your...

'Cause I was born to tell you I love you,
and I am torn to do what I have to,
to make you mine.
Stay with me tonight.

And I'm tired of being all alone,
and this solitary moment
makes me want to come back home.
( I know everything you wanted isn't anything you have.)

'Cause I was born to tell you I love you,
and I am torn to do what I have to,
'Cause I was born to tell you I love you,
and I am torn to do what I have to,
to make you mine.
Stay with me tonight

Maybe

Didn't you wanna hear
the sound of all the places we could go?
Do you fear
the expressions on the faces we don't know?
It's a cold, hard road when you wake up,
and I don't think that I have the strength
to let you go.

Maybe it's just me.
Couldn't you believe that everything I said and did
wasn't just deceiving?
And the tear in your eye,
and your calm, hard face
makes me wish that I was never brought into this place.

There goes my ring,
it might as well have been shattered.
And I'm here to sing
about the things that mattered.
About the things that made us feel alive for oh so long.
About the things that kept you on my side when I was wrong.

Maybe it's just me.
Couldn't you believe that everything I said and did
wasn't just deceiving?
And the tear in your eye,
and your calm, hard face
makes me wish that I was never brought into this place.

And someday, I promise I'll be gone.
And someday, I might even sing this song to you.
I might even sing this song to you.
To you, to you, to you...
And I was crying alone tonight,
and I was wasting all of my life
just thinking of you.
So just come back,
we'll make it better.
So just come back,
I'll make it better than it ever was.
I'll make it better than it ever was.

Maybe it's just me.
Couldn't you believe that everything I said and did
wasn't just deceiving?
And the tear in your eye,
and your calm, hard face
makes me wish that I was never brought into this place.

(I want it all, don't leave right now.
I'll give you everything.)

Maybe it's just me.
Couldn't you believe that everything I said and did
wasn't just deceiving?
And the tear in your eye,
and your calm, hard face makes me wish
that I was never brought into this place.
Maybe it's just me

Fall For You

The best thing about tonight's that we're not fighting
Could it be that we have been this way before
I know you don't think that I am trying
I know you're wearing thin down to the core

But hold your breathe
Because tonight will be the night
That I will fall for you
Over again
Don't make me change my mind
Or I won't live to see another day
I swear it's true
Because a girl like you is impossible to find
You're impossible to find

This is not what I intended
I always swore to you I'd never fall apart
You always thought that I was stronger
I may have failed but I have loved you from the start

Oh, But hold your breathe
Because tonight will be the night
That I will fall for you
Over again
Don't make me change my mind
Or I won't live to see another day
I swear it's true
Because a girl like you is impossible to find
It's impossible
So breathe in so deep
Breathe me in
I'm yours to keep
And hold on to your words
Cause talk is cheap
And remember me tonight
When you're asleep

Because tonight will be the night
That I will fall for you
Over again
Don't make me change my mind
Or I won't live to see another day
I swear it's true
Because a girl like you is impossible to find

Tonight will be the night
That I will fall for you
Over again
Don't make me change my mind
Or I won't live to see another day
I swear it's true
Because a girl like you is impossible to find
You're impossible to find

Like A Knife

I did a lot, I know you say
I've got to get away.
"The world is not yours for the taking"
Is all you ever say.
I know I'm not the best for you,
But promise that you'll stay.
'Cause if I watch you go,
You'll see me wasting, you'll see me wasting away

'Cause today, you walked out of my life
'Cause today, your words felt like a knife
I'm not living this life.

Goodbyes are meant for lonely people standing in the rain
And no matter where I go it's always pouring all the same.
These streets are filled with memories
Both good for detected pain
And all I wanna do is love you
But I'm the only one to blame.

'Cause today, you walked out of my life
'Cause today, your words felt like a knife
I'm not living this life.

But what do I know, if you're leaving
All you did was stop the bleeding.
But these scars will stay forever,
These scars will stay forever
And these words have no meaning
If we cannot find the feeling
That we held on to together
Try your hardest to remember

Stay with me,
Or watch me bleed,
I need you just to breathe.

'Cause today, you walked out of my life
(stay with me, or watch me bleed)
'Cause today, your words felt like a knife
(i need you just to breathe.)
I'm not living this life

Media Player Shootout

Whether you call them media players, jukeboxes, mp3 apps, music managers, or whatever - we all need a proggy to listen to our digital music with. For the sake of this article I am only going to discuss players you can get for free and I am not going to go into p2p apps.

So with that, lets dive right in. For my money there are are only 3 choices - Winamp, iTunes, or Windows Media Players - but I'll talk a little about RealPlayer 10 as well. All of these applications share baseline features - playing various media files, cataloging digital media, etc. We'll focus on things about them that are different.

Back in the day, we had Winamp, and it was good. Unfortunately the original Nullsoft team has all moved on and instead of the hacker cred that Winamp used to have back when Justin Frankel et all were on the job it is now just another corporate media player with a hazy future.

Winamp lost a lot of momentum that it had when it released a ( very ) bad Winamp3 - but with the release of Winamp5 they seem to be back on track - it is useable, responsive, and has a lot of plugins and skins created for it.

The major problem is that for all of it's features it is not much, if any, better then the two dominant media players that are tied to successful music stores iTunes and WMP. Additionally you have to pay $14.95 to get the pro version that add features that iTunes and WMP include for free. One of the bonuses of using Winamp is the ability to tune into all of the cool shoutcast radio stations.

iTunes is, of course, is the digital jukebox front end for the iPod and the iTunes music store from apple computer. The iTunes music store was the first to get pay for digital music downloads right and it still has the largest legal downloadable catalog on the net giving the iTunes jukebox a hefty advantage.

If you are using a Mac then it is a no brainer - you should be using iTunes as you media player, but even if you are using Windows iTunes provides an attractive alternative. The iTunes store is superior ( imho ) to the Windows Media based stores such as Napster and with the legendary Apple ease of use in full effect iTunes makes a great Windows based Jukebox. Noteworthy is the Apple Lossless codec that allows one to rip CD's to the ACC format that sound as good as the CD itself to our ears. On the negative side, the iTunes jukebox feels heavy on moderately powered PC's compared to Winamp or WMP. It runs a little slower, seems to use more resources, etc.

Last (of yea, except for RealPlayer... ) Windows Media Player 10 is one of Microsoft's best pieces of software and is some much better then the last generation of MS media players. The jukebox itself is stuffed with features such as its ability to monitor changes to your digital media files and update itself, simple sync and burn, ratings, and the auto tag features are all very nice.

One of the changes in V.10 is the ability to rip files if the format and with ( or without ) the DRM of your choice. You also get the ability to listen to Internet radio streams with WMP, and although they tend to be more corporate then the hip shoutcast radio you can still find some good music. WMP also features a lossless ripping of CD's but I was less impressed with the results then I was with Apples Lossless.

And finally there is RealPlayer. The free RealPlayer 10 is better then previous version although that is not saying much imho. It still takes over your file formats by default, tries to force you register, runs in the background (phoning home ?) unless you can find the settings to tell it not to - all of the problems that it has always have. I say stay as far away from Real as possible even if you can use "Harmony" to use your iPod with the Real store. While I may be being over critical of Real's jukebox - I do think that there are other alternatives that are less intrusive and have better feature sets.

All in all I think that either iTunes or WMP is a solid choice and far and away the best media players available. Winamp is a okay too as long as you don't need to rip music or burn it back to a CD - but it is worth the download and install just to listen to Shoutcast stations from time to time. Personally I use WMP at work and iTunes are home, so take that for what it's worth. I think that I like WMP a little better, but not so much that I would take the time to switch my iTunes set up at home.
